I build robots
people can drive.

One person, whole machine: I design, machine, code, and operate complete robotic systems. Three years engineering a 30-servo humanoid in an HRI lab, a 6-DoF cinema arm built solo for under $2,500, and the camera practice that makes the operator's side worth designing.

Browser-based drone mission planner for Gaussian splat capture. Draw a polygon on a map and it plans a convergent multi-angle flight, checks the path against Google's 3D mesh, scores what the camera will actually see, and exports a flyable Litchi mission.

A Gaussian splat scan of a butterfly redrawn by InkField as a field of glyphs and hatch marks.

Browser renderer that reads Gaussian splat scans as glyphs, hatch, and flow-placed marks. Lens and depth of field are drawn as marks rather than blur.

About

The person behind the machines
Rio Harper, portrait.

I write the software, machine the parts, and run the camera.

I'm a robotics engineer with a B.S. in Visual Communications and a CS minor from Syracuse University's Renée Crown Honors program. I build the embedded control, the mechanical assemblies, and the operator-facing software that let people outside engineering drive complex machines.

My honors capstone was CineWave, a 6-DoF cinema motion-control arm: designed, machined, coded, and filmed solo for under $2,500. Before that, three years in an HRI lab engineering a 30-servo humanoid that 250+ study participants teleoperated. I'd rather ship one well-engineered tool than ten quick demos.

When I'm not trapped in the lab, I take incredibly long hikes by myself with a good audiobook or music playlist.

Always happy to nerd out on all things robots, AI, and cinema. Niche musical genres too, I can talk all day about those.
